The sixth Night ( pg:258 -87)
The next morning Mr.Ashok came down to the car with the red bag in his hands. Ashok gave hundred rupees to Balram as a sign of generosity and promised to face the wedding expenses of Balram. Early next morning Balram walked out of Buckingham B on to the main road. He saw paw prints in the pavement. He followed the paw prints and reached the slum. Vitiligo lips had already told about this place to Balram. The construction workers who were building malls and other big buildings lived there . They were building homes for rich but they lived in small tents covered with blue tarpaulin sheets.
Balram finds an iron wrench in the parking lot and took it to his room. Balram 's cousin Dharam arrives. He has been sent by his family to Balram with a letter from his granny Kusum, who as usual complaints that Balram has not sent home money. In that letter she asked Balram to take care of Dharam as if he were his own son . Balram considers him as a obstacle in his way and hits him hard a couple of times. That evening Balram introduces Dharam to Ashok as a helper sent by his family. When Ashok asked about his battered face Dharam tells that he had fallen off from the bus. Dharam helps Balram in his works. He minded his own business. Balram feels guilty for hitting Dharam . He took him to the tea shop.
Dharam informs Balram that the village is still the same and the school teacher Krishna still steals the money meant for the students uniform and food. In the tea shop Vitiligo lips sat down next to Balram and demands 500 rupees and blackmails than he will inform everything about Balram to Ashok. Ashok started spending most of his time with Uma and asks her to wait till his divorce. Uma wants Ashok to appoint a local driver instead of Balram.
Election results are announced and the Great Socialist's party won the election. In the radio the voice of a great socialist came on. He talks about the problems faced by the people and says that he is simply the voice of the poor people. Ashok is totally upset. Balram drives him to meet two Great Socialist's representatives. After agreeing to pay a large sum of money, Ashok asks Balram to take the two politicians yo anywhere they want. Balram discovers that one of the men he is driving is his childhood hero Vijay. Vijay and his companion discuss about the election and Vijay is certain that Ashok will pay up the amount. Ashok will bring the money on Monday at the sheraton hotel basement restaurant. From their conversation Balram comes to know about the weakness of Ashok.
Ashok doesn't have to go anywhere that sunday morning, so Balram asks a day off to spend some time with Dharam. Balram takes Dharam to the national zoo in Delhi. They saw a White Tiger, which is as restless as Balram. Balram dictates a letter to Dharam for his family telling about his experience at the zoo. He bid good bye to his family and said that he cannot keep living in a cage all his life. The White Tiger reminds him of his own in born potentials.
Next morning Balram drives Ashok from bank to bank to fill the red bag. On d way to sheraton, he passed the famous bronze statue of Gandhi leading his followers from darkness to light. This inspired him to put his plan into action. As they drive Balram pretends that there is a problem in one of the wheels . He asks Ashok to exit the car and examine the wheel. Aa he does so Balram kills Ashok with the broken bottle of Johnny Walker Black. He drags Ashok 's body into the bushes. Then he wipes hus face and prays for Ashok 's soul to reach the heaven. Balram feels that he is a free man now. He drives to railway station with the red bag full of money, then he thinks about Dharam and picks up Dharam and heads for Banglore with the money.
